The American Rose Society lists over 16,000 rose varieties in its current reference book,
Modern Roses 10 -- and this is still an incomplete list. It is obviously impossible for any
nursery to have stock of all of these roses on hand at any one time. However, we have
received so many inquiries from people for roses which have some sentimental significance to
them that we have created a unique service for rose lovers in an attempt to fulfill these
requests.
Before you resort to our Rose Finder Service to locate a rose that you have been unable to
find by other means, check out the new online service offered by Joel Mattox at
www.findmyroses.com.
Joel has compiled lists from many nurseries throughout the world of
the roses which they are currently growing and offering for sale. His page promises to be an
in-depth, up-to-date resource for locating roses currently in commerce. If you cannot find
the variety that you are seeking, then give us a try.
Our Rose Finder will locate hard-to-find roses and custom-root them for you. In order to
avail yourself of this service you will have to have the patience to wait until your special
rose has been found, rooted, and grown to a size that we feel is large and healthy enough to
grow well for you. This could take as much as a year, depending on the rose variety, the
difficulty we encounter in obtaining it, the ease or difficulty of rooting it (this factor
varies widely among cultivars), and the time of year in which we are able to plant it out and
get it on its way to maturity.
Our network of connections in the rose world gives us access to many private and public
gardens and collections that are either unknown or closed to many gardeners. We will use
these connections to help our clients find the rare, unusual, and special roses they desire.
We do not extend this service to roses which are still under patent or are less than 40 years
old. These are relatively modern hybrids and are usually available through many nurseries.
We will concentrate on the roses that are not in commerce, or difficult to obtain even when
they are listed in the collections of various growers. If you can't find it at
www.findmyroses.com,
we'll try to help you.
We charge $10 for this service which is added to the regular $11 price of the plant.
However, we do not require payment at the time you make your request. We will first make an
attempt to find and start cuttings of your rose. When we have your young plant growing in
our propagation bed, we will bill you by mail. We cannot guarantee that we can find any rose
that you desire. But we will give it our serious attention and make every effort to provide
satisfaction. If you want more than one plant of your requested variety, add $2 per plant to
the Finder's Fee. We do ask the Finder's Fee of $10 for each variety that is found for you.
It is interesting and exciting to us to search for unusual roses -- the thrill of the chase
is part of the fun in our business. We hope that this service will be of use to you. To
make a request, Just Ask Alice.
